A Day in my Dream Life

I think that if I truly desire to work for myself from the comfort of my home in the future, then it can only help me to get to that point if I envision what a day in the life of my dream job might be like.

Here’s how I think a typical day in my future dream life might go…

  • Wake up around 7am, spend around 30 minutes to an hour working out, then shower and get dressed for the day.
  • Make myself something healthy to eat for breakfast, perhaps a “green monster” smoothie.
  • After breakfast, head to the computer to start work. I think I’d have some sort of etsy type store open, so first thing would be to check for any new orders that need to be shipped and work on getting those ready. (probably get online to usps.com and schedule a free package pickup for those, just so I don’t need to leave the house!)
  • Once orders are ready to go, do a quick check of email to see if there’s anything that needs to be answered right away.
  • Next, spend time working on business related things; paid blogging or paid article writing, design work, work on creating things to be sold.
  • Lunch break, something healthy. Eat, then spend 30 minutes working on household chores; laundry, dishes, cleaning.
  • Back to work, check email and try to get everything answered and the inbox cleared out.
  • Spend an hour or so working on blogging, scheduling posts out in advance, working on projects for diy posts, etc.
  • Take a 30 minute break, get a snack, work on chores or go outside for a quick walk.
  • Spend the next hour and a half working on the etsy store, listing more items to be sold, creating things, packaging things, printing invoices to be filed. etc.
  • It should now be around 5 pm, time to start working on dinner. Work is now finished for at least a few hours.

I realized that this is a “dream” day, I have no actual idea what my typical day would be like if and when I do work for myself from home. I imagine that it probably wouldn’t be much like this; life would probably get in the way and I’d be working much later than 5pm, and that would be okay too. I realize that if I want to work from home that I would need to be flexible in my scheduling and making sure that I still have time to get everything done that I need do each day.

WordPress Multisite Thoughts

If you are planning on getting your own web hosting account and blogging, WordPress is really the only program that you need to get and install. A lot of hosts now offer a “one-click” installation to install wordpress, or you can install it yourself in only 5 minutes. It’s such a breeze to install and get started with blogging.

I’m mentioned numorous times that I own several different domains and all of which have blogs, so I researched online and figured out how to install a WordPress Multisite Network, an extension of WordPress that allows me to host all my blogs within one single WordPress installation.

I love using the WordPress Multisite feature, my only regret is that I didn’t install it sooner! I love using it because it allows me to simply download and install themes and plugins once, and use them across all my blogs. WordPress has frequent updates, and using this, I can simply press the update button one time and I’m done!

WordPress Multisite allows me to get all my WordPress related stuff done faster, and in doing so it gives me much more time to work on blogging!

Using an Editorial Calendar

I’m pretty much blog obsessed, there are a ton of blogs that I follow via bloglovin’, I check for and read new posts multiple times per day! Just by reading all these blogs, I found out about the use of “editorial calendars”, I thought using one would be a grand idea and would be super useful in my own blog writing.

You use an ‘editorial calendar’ to help plan out your blog posts. You can use any type of calendar that you like, whether it’s in a daily planner that you carry everywhere with you in your purse, or you can use the free google calendar to make an editorial calendar. I’ve chosen to use the free google calendar, because I already have a google id to set it up with and because I can access it from anywhere as Iong as I have an internet connection!

I am currently writing out a whole month’s worth of blog posts topics (one for each day) at the beginning of the month. I like writing multiple days worth of posts at once and scheduling them to be posted later on during the week, because it gives me plenty of ‘free time’ to work on other things, and usually during that ‘free time’ I’ll come up with even more posts to write! This explains how it can be February 12th as I post this, and yet I’ve already posted 17 times so far this month! That’s already 5 extra posts for this month, I really like that!

Lack of Motivation

I think I may have developed a serious case of a “lack of motivation syndrome”, I have so many things that I know that I need to get done, and that have been on my to-do list for what seems like forever and yet.. they are the same things that I haven’t even begun to get started on!

For instance:

  • PROJECT 365: Pretty sure I missed a day this week, also it’s 9:33pm and I still haven’t taken a photo for today either.
  • FRIDAY FAVORITES: This should be so easy, I’m already taking the photos during the week.. all I have to do is pick about 5 photos for each Friday, resize them and upload them, and get the posts done already! I haven’t posted “Friday Favorites” the past 2 weeks in a row, and I still haven’t started on tomorrow’s post of it either. ugh.
  • CREATING A CUSTOM THEME: I’ve been working so hard at scheduling multiple days worth of posts for this blog in advance, mainly so that I could spent my newly created free time working on customizing the theme for the blog. I started on it one day, and now I’m working towards restarting from scratch and hopefully finally getting it done this time. I’m going to try creating a ‘child theme’ and see if that’s any easier, I wish I was better at transferring my photoshop designs and turning them into wordpress theme designs; I hope it will eventually get a lot easier!

I’m trying to stay on track with completing these goals that I set up for myself, but I always seem to veer completely off track and have to reposition myself to get things done. Does that ever happen to you too?

Gettin’ Busy with Domains

I’m sure I’ve mention somewhere on the line that I currently own 8 separate domains (8? Yes, completely true!) and that I saved myself a whole mess of trouble by setting up a WordPress Multisite Network. Well, I still had not  moved all of my domains onto the network, so I fixed that dilemma today. I also didn’t have email@domain.com email addresses set up for all the domains either, so I set those up and they will forward any email to my main email address, so that’s fixed too!

Lately, my main goals that are related to the crazy amount of domains that I own are: set up customized, reasonably good looking themes on all domains (okay to just focus on one at a time!), continue scheduling advance posts on pinkdiary.org like a crazy woman (I’d love to just be able to devote one day worth of work and getting posts done for a whole week!!) and focus on posting on my other domains so that they can grow in age and content too. If I could become superblogger and schedule advance posts on ALL my blogs and domains?? That would be amazing!!

I want to grow all these domains so that they may become a source of income for me in the future, that’s my main goal. I want to be able to successfully work from home, and being able to generate income (even if it’s just a tiny amount) would be a HUGE step in the right direction!
